2024 In Review
Thanks for joining us for a wonderful 2024! Last year was one of our biggest yet, and we hosted some massive events, worked with some incredible coaches, and grew our team. Here’s a recap of some of our favorite moments.
Winter Warrior. We completed another year of our annual Winter Warrior challenge with more than a few snowy sessions and temperatures dropping into the teens. Congratulations to everyone who did not waver and accomplished the challenge, again! Let’s see what the weather brings in the coming months.
The Association for the Study of Play. Jesse and Cristina traveled to attend the TASP Conference and share the “Teachers’ Playbox” - a collection of games that can be played in the classroom or in the play yard, designed to enhance students’ learning as well as their physical and social development. We’re also excited to head down to Texas in February for TASP’s 2025 conference!
Riverside Park Conservancy. After our QR code movement scavenger hunt and the success of our Sunday sessions in ‘23, our friend Whitney Dearden and her team welcomed us back in ‘24 for a reprise of our 6-week long series, “Over, Under, Through.” We’re also excited to announce that we’ll be back in the park again this year, so look for those free Sunday morning classes in the parkour park in April and August!
MOVE NYC. Our annual, weekend-long movement festival with coaches from all over the US, Europe and South America! This year we were on the field along Essex Street which allowed us to spread out and made the build just a little bit easier! With more than 200 people and 15 hours open, we offered a total of 3,000 movement hours for the community! Look out for an announcement about MOVE NYC 2025 soon.
Misogi. Our annual “impossible challenge” expanded in a few ways in ‘24. We offered a “mini” misogi in July with participants balancing on the railings through Riverside Park South in the hot sun. Jesse and Izzy supported with watermelon and focaccia!
Labor Day Weekend brave souls made their way to Vandrar Hem for a weekend-long misogi retreat led by Evan Beyer and Jesse. Chop Wood, Carry Water had movers carrying giant logs, sawing them, hewing them into axe handles which they then learned to throw. Cold plunges, camp fires, great food, and recovery in the new, wood-burning sauna smoothed everything out.
Summer Streets. We are very proud of our work with the Department of Transportation and in ‘24 we expanded with an additional activation in Brooklyn featuring guest coaches from Lehigh Valley! Thank you to all of our coaches who supported 4 weeks of this annual event. It’s a long day in the sun but very festive and satisfying. This year we hope to participate in multiple sites in Manhattan as well as Brooklyn!
STICK Or Treat. Our annual jumping competition returned this year on two separate weekends for adult and youth participants. Congratulations to everyone who made it out and our winners in the Men’s Division: Cian Miron, Women’s Division: Lily Zhuo, Youth: X Santana-Kim! Thank you to Coach Mike for organizing and facilitating this event!
Youth Programming. Our youth programs continue to thrive with our Parkour Adventure solidly footed in Jackson Heights, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Our teen program has grown under Ruby and Mike’s guidance and many of our teens are now supporting our camps through our Coach-In-Training program. We welcomed 3 teens onto our regular coaching staff - Ori Pauly-Tarr, Forrest Cusin, and Daniel Harrison-Bregman have all been helping out with afterschool programs, flip classes, birthday parties and events. We expanded our in-school programs this year with a 3-day contract with Avenues, The World School serving children ages 4-10. Look out for announcements about our early bird Summer Camp special!
Birthday Parties. We provide one of the most unique and fun birthday parties for kids and, though less frequently, adults too! We offer outdoor parties year-round as well as indoors at Cocoon (booked through Cocoon). We want to celebrate 2025 with our students so please stay-tuned for details on an extra special exclusive offer with savings of up to 40% for custom-bday parties.
Cocoon. We launched a new class at Cocoon for children ages 3-4 years! Parkour Explore is in its second semester with 12 littles enrolled. We are having a blast watching these very young movers master jumping, hopping, and vaulting skills. They are also madly competitive at Mr. Fox! We designed and installed parkour playground sets at Cocoon’s new location on the Upper West Side and will begin programming there early in 2025 - stay tuned for announcements!
Guest Workshops. We sponsored 4 guest coach workshops this year and were so happy that many of you made it out. Thank you to Nico Vanhole, Jef Morales (our first, bilingual session), Mikes Korínek, and Chris Piccirello for enhancing our sessions with their expertise. We look forward to more guests in 2025! And of course, to our favorite Winter Warrior, Olof Wood who led us through 2-days of outdoor training and the most fun anyone could have running in knee-deep leaves through the woods!
Adult Programming. We welcomed several new members this year and added one, new adult class. Join Coach Mike every Thursday at Nelson Rockefeller Park from 12-1:30! This class counts towards Winter Warrior.
New Team Members. Last but not least we want to shout out our newest team members, Lily Zhou and Sabrina Mack who are already crushing it. Special thanks to Deepak Ravi who stepped in to support but only briefly due to a new full-time position. We look forward to having Deepak support future events! And many, many thanks to long-time member MP Nunan who stepped up to take over our Insta account.
